South West Victoria Greyhound Adoption

About Us
South West Victoria Greyhound Adoption (SWVGA) is a volunteer-run, non-profit organisation that finds new homes for greyhounds who have retired from racing, as well as other greys who did not possess the talent or inclination to become professional athletes! Although we are located in SW Victoria, we may be able to assist in arranging transport to Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney, or most places in between.
What's Involved?
All greyhounds placed up for adoption by SWVGA are:
-
Behaviourally assessed
-
Vet checked
-
De-sexed
-
Microchipped
-
Vaccinated to C5
-
Wormed & Deflead
What does it cost to adopt one of our greyhounds? All we ask for is a monetary donation - the amount you choose is up to you.
All monies received go towards preparing the next greyhound for his or her new home.
If one of our available dogs takes your eye, we can arrange a 'meet and greet' at a mutually convenient time and place.
Once you're sure you've found 'the one,' you sign the adopter's agreement and SWVGA provides you with our Adopter's Pack to take home with you. The Pack contains all relevant documents, information on what to expect from your new buddy, some tips for settling in, and a fleecy coat for your new buddy.
About Our Greyhounds
Like all breeds of dogs, greyhounds are individuals. Some are high energy whereas others are laid back and like to laze around.
In general, greyhounds are friendly by nature and get along well with other dogs, although they may not play with them.
Greyhounds have been well socialized and are friendly by nature. They get along well with other dogs, although they may not play with them. Common sense should be exercised during the introductory period and supervised feeding is always recommended in a multi-pet household.

Retired not Rescued
Most retired racing greyhounds do not need 'rescuing.'
They have been well looked after and treated as professional athletes since they were born.
Ex-racing greyhounds are well socialised and familiar with travelling, noise, frequent vet checks, crowds, and other dogs.
That's what makes them such great pets!
